Jacqui Smith, if the truth hurts, hide it?
Once again the Home Office is in the news for the wrong reasons.
It is now obvious that the Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, is proving herself and her department completely inept at doing the job asked of them by the British taxpayer.
Jacqui Smith is being accused of trying to cover up yet another Home Office blunder.
The news that at least 5,000 illegal immigrants had been cleared by the Security Industry Authority to work in some of Whitehall’s most sensitive buildings finally broke on Sunday. Bad enough, but then this information has been known to her for four months, but only admitted to it on Sunday in response to questions from journalists.
Apparantly the Home Secretary accepted advice from officials that a news blackout should be imposed on the story for fear that it could spark negative headlines.
Mrs Smith is about to give a statement to the House of Commons this afternoon at 15.30, I, for one, cannot wait for hear her excuses.
Once again it shows how her department is slowly melting down. Sacndal, followed by ineptitude, followed by scandal.
These people are supposed to look after the nation’s security, it should not be tolerated.
It’s about time she stood up, sacked the useless Sir Ian Blair, then resign her position. A scandal of this magnitude is one straw too far.
Gordon Brown, get your government sorted out. Sack her
