Why Sir Ian Blair should be sacked
The straw that will break the camel’s back? I think so. Its time for Sir Ian Blair, the Met Chief to clear his desk in the wake of the Jean Charles de Menezes findings.
Sir Ian Blair vowed yesterday to stay on as Britain’s top police officer, despite sustained calls for his resignation, after his force was found guilty of “catastrophic” failings that led to the shooting dead of Jean Charles de Menezes.
An Old Bailey jury found the Metropolitan police guilty of breaking health and safety law in July 2005 when De Menezes was killed after being mistaken for a suicide bomber. Mr Justice Henriques ordered Scotland Yard to pay fines and legal costs totalling £560,000. He criticised Sir Ian’s force for adopting “an entrenched position” in refusing to admit any failures in the operation.
No failures in the operation? If there are no failings why has the British taxpayer been fined over £1/2m, yes, we are the ones who pay your fines.
I don’t think that Sir Ian should resign, he should be sacked from his position.
The Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, along with the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown have given Sir Ian their backing, does this work the same way as a Premiership Manager? Full backing of the board, but out of the job in two weeks, here’s hoping so.
Both the Tories and Lib Dems are demanding his resignation after it was Sir Ian’s personal decision to contest the case, which has cost the taxpayer £3.5 million (that’s taken the bill to £4m for the taxpayer), despite “overwhelming” evidence of a series of blunders by his force.
Commissioner , who claims, the shooting was an isolated tragedy and he insisted it was an “isolated breach” under “extraordinary circumstances” and gave his backing for all officers involved in counter-terrorism - in particular Deputy Assistant Commissioner Cressida Dick, who was in overall charge of the botched operation.
The sooner Sir Ian Blair is replaced the better for the police and the better for Britain. It wasn’t just an innocent Brazilian who was let down by Sir Ian Blair’s force. We all were.
Sir Ian Blair, your position is now untenable, clear your desk!
