Britain’s missing city
Work and Pensions Secretary Peter Hain was forced to apologise after admitting that the increase in foreign nationals working in the UK since 1997 was 1.1million - 300,000 MORE than previously stated.
This means that foreign nationals have taken 40.7 per cent of the 2.7million jobs created since Labour came to power.
They now account for about 8 per cent of the 29.1million people working in the UK.
The news comes as Home Office minister Liam Byrne announced today that restrictions on Romanians and Bulgarians who want to work in Britain will remain until “at least the end of 2008”.
As 300,000 people would consititute a city in the UK, shall we inform Ordinance Survey where it is? Unfortunately, as with the UK’s immigration policy of letting anyone in, we don’t know where they are.
