FA backs McClaren
Under-fire England manager Steve McClaren has received the backing of Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick. That usually spells the end of a manager’s career.
When Brian Barwick was at the BBC they lost premiership rights to Sky. When he was in charge of ITV sport he lost premiership highlights to BBC. Now he is in charge of the FA he has lost Euro 2008 rights to Russia.
After failing to beat Russia yesterday evening, England’s chances of qualifying for Euro 2008 disappeared into the plastic pitch (how international football can be played on such a surface is laughable). All hopes of qualifying now is to rely on Israel beating Russia.
After taking a first half lead through Wayne Rooney’s marvelous volley, England went behind to a dubious penalty and a goal mouth farce (I did’nt realise you could get so many of our team in out own box). McClaren’s managerial ineptness failed to change the formation to combat the substitute Pavluchenko growing influence on the game. A last ditch effort of making three substitutions, why I’m not sure, of Lampard, Crouch and Downing (not good enough to wear the shirt) ended up playing the long ball.
Its about time we sacked this so-called manager, obviously he’s out of his depth.
